Solar Serpents 2024 Babies!

I’m glad he is doing well.

I have to laugh at them when they do this. It’s like they’re saying, "Remember, I could still take you. I am choosing to let you off easy. "

Thanks Caron! I’m really happy with this whole clutch. I can’t wait to see the rest after they shed.

And here’s the next clutch on day 69! These eggs are mostly tiny and there was a weird mold that appeared on this clutch, including on a few of the good eggs. So we’ll see how those ones turn out.

Yes he is! I was able to get him to take a small drink for the first time as well. His head coordination isn’t great, so I’ve been carefully dipping one mouth and then the other into water to see if he’d drink (because I wasn’t sure if he’d be able to find and navigate the water dish on his own). And finally yesterday I tried dipping both mouths simultaneously into the water and I saw his little cheeks fill and swallow. He’s in blue currently. I think shedding will be quite a hurdle for him, but I hope he’ll at least be able to get it started.

These ultra and ultramel babies are going to be tough to ID. Here are Glitz (left) and Flash (right). The eyes are very subtly different, but the head color is a bit different and the body stripes are remarkably different with Glitz having soft purple stripes and Flash having like dark orange or red. So I think Glitz is ultramel and Flash is just ultra? But tell me if you think it’s just natural variation! Ultramel has a 50% chance and ultra is 25%, so keep that in mind too. And they’re also male and female, so the possibility of a little sexual dimorphism occurred to me as well.

And then we have these two (well, there’s actually three, but I didn’t think I could successfully wrangle three at the same time).

Dazzle, male, on the left. And Shimmer, female, on the right. My phone camera is adding some red tones to everything, but both these guys look more yellow in person.

Dazzle on bottom and Shimmer on top.

I’m feeling pretty confident that Dazzle is ultra caramel and Shimmer is golddust. He looks significantly darker than her and even his belly checkers are darker. Again, could be natural variation!

And then Twinkle, male. I think this one is golddust. He’s also the yellowest of the three.
