Terrarium Updates!

How it started after picking up my Apex Cage at the Pomona reptile expo

How it’s going now!! Currently housing my Albino ball python(Kevin). It’s more crowded than Kevin has ever had it, maybe good?

Please add on your own photos so i can get some ideas for my OD Pied’s(Darwin) 40 gallon cage.

Wow @b_wess! You are really sprucing things up! Just remember, the more you put in the enclosures the more you will have to clean! :joy:

But if your snakes are eating and thriving then it’s worth it! “Darwin” is a nice looking BP as well! If looks like you really care for them! :+1:
:blush::clap:

Keep up the great job and keep us posted!

That’s true. I didn’t really thing that through. Although the two hides and water bowl are all removable and lightweight. So that works out well. Thanks!

Looking good. Every time I go to the pet store for whatever reason, I always come back with more plants. Funny how that always happens, the decorations just fall into my cart

You have so many beautiful plants! So I’m assuming yours is a bio?

They’re plastic, bioactive is far beyond me.

lol! I’m with ya there! It’s far too complicated for me but there are people who swear by it.

my intention was bio, but i had no time to properly set one up, as i had an impulse buy at the reptile expo, and brought home Darwin and a new tank, instead of just a tank lol. So i was able to bring home home a massive storage bucket of fake plants from work for free, and made due with that.

i like the look of the leaves on the ground, really imitates a forest floor.

here are some pics from the inside. i didnt cover the side walls so i could still use the ventilation at the top, and i left the length of the 3’ enclose open on the floor in the back for Kevin to fully spread out.

It looks good! I would suggest that you get rid of the red light though. Even though people say that they can’t see it that is completely wrong. They actually can see it. If you was 24/7 heat I would recommend a ceramic heat emitter/deep heat projector.

Besides for the lighting, everything else looks perfect! You have a very lucky ball python!

Hey @b_wess It looks absolutely gorgeous! Love all the plants! You have done a great job for your BP! However @logar may be correct about the light? I’m not sure if snakes can see red? but I think everything would look better without the red……

As Logan said, there are options…… :+1::blush::100:

From what I understand about red lights is that they can’t see the color but they can still see the light being produced. It is the equivalent of using a normal light 24/7. The advertising is tricky because it makes people think that it is ok to leave on all the time. If you don’t want to waste the bulb you can use it during the day and turn it off at night.

We need more enclosure build threads

Isn’t there some kind of incandescent “black” light or is it a “blue” light that can be used at night for viewing the animal after daylight hours? Supposedly it doesn’t affect the animal…….

There are red lights and blue lights. We thought reptiles couldn’t see them at night but newer research suggests they are really disruptive to animals circadian rhythms.

They have ceramic bulbs that only generate heat. Best to use those

yeah i understand neither red nor blue are perfect, but at the time i acquired the snake, all i had handy was red lights, and the ceramics were too expensive for me. but things have changed, and ill likely get those ceramic bulbs very soon. i have been a little reckless with my spending lately.

Greetings other “Brad”! not very often i get to chat with someone with the same name as me. navigating the community page has proven difficult for me, and i couldnt find any threads containing terrarium builds. so decided to make my own in hopes other people will add theirs. i also want more ideas. im constantly trying to improve the quality of life my reptiles can have. im not a breeder, so i just want them to be very comfortable 24/7.

You will meet a lot of snobs in the hobbie. But not so many on these forums. It is impossible to provide perfect husbandry and we all do the best we can and try to continually improve. No need to explain.
