Well, this wasn't a colour I was expecting to see!

The girls in this clutch are growing exponentially, lol.

Yeah, and that is her only eating double pinks. The next size is in the mail though.

She’s gonna stop looking like a hatchling sooner rather than later.

Yeah, she is already there lol . She was exploring the other night and I was like wow your huge.

It’s so crazy how one day you look and are just like, “Okay, I swear I blinked and you doubled in size!”

Well @lumpy, after weighing the rest of her clutchmates, I remain amazed at their growth. Biggest baby is one of my holdbacks, Seeker, at a staggering 39g! :scream: :skull: I think I will space out their feedings a bit more.

Wow 39 grams! I am sure Leaky will beat that lol.

They’re SOO big! I wonder if the genes from the Scaleless heritage contribute in some way to rapid growth/larger hatchling size, or if they hit the growth jackpot some other way. Rapid growth is a big advantage in nature. It’s really great that they’re so healthy. Hooray for healthy babies!!

Guess who just ate her first hopper?!

Yep, just look at that proud smile from my Leaky

Hoppers, wow! Way to go Leaky! Way to go, too, too the humans who’ve beautifully met her needs.

Well, Azula has gained 52g in 27 days…She’s now 12 days out from her last shed. I tried very hard to get a semi-usable photo of her lower 2/3 but she’s been zooming around and refusing to hold still, so this is the best I’ve got. I’m still on the fence as to whether or not she’s gravid or just a lumpy animal.

Have you palpated her? That does look abnormally lumpy.

I have, and she feels full, but because I have neuropathy issues I can’t feel anything defined. I’m not worried just yet, but if she goes too long past 14 days post-shed, she’s going in for an ultrasound or x-ray to see if she’s got eggs or just fat. Part of the issue is her pattern acts as a bit of an optical illusion as well, making it hard to tell what’s really going on.

She’s still eating, but I know some females will continue to do so even when gravid. Tonight she about turned over her entire enclosure rooting around, so I’m hopeful that’s nesting behaviour. I don’t need any more crazy vet bills this year.

I thought the exact same thing! How unusual!

She’s very one of a kind, but frustrating, haha. The way the patterning on her belly scutes is broken up works a bit like Dazzle camouflage.

I’m seeing some lumpy, bumpy files in those pics. Her gorgeous, crazy pattern makes it challenging but if I focus along her belly and where the ventral scutes and lateral scales meet, she does seem to have some fullness.

How often is she being weighed? If she is gravid, I’d expect that she is gaining noticeably since it’s late in any potential pregnancy.

I’ve been weighing her when I can, three times in the last month. She was 308g at the start of September. When I weighed her a week later she had dropped 14g, so I started feeding her as if she was gravid, because there was no other explanation for a drop that fast without any other factors. Since then she’s put on another 52g to bring her up to a current 346g. I would assume she’d have put on a lot more weight if she weren’t gravid, as she’s getting a large mouse every 3-5 days.

That’s a heavy feeding schedule. If she’s taking a large mouse every 3-5 days, maybe at least some of the bumpiness is simply food making its way through her digestive tract. Only in very rare cases have I fed more often than every 5 days, and then it was with smaller- than-usual prey items.

This seems odd to me. In my experience, most gravid girls gain weight easily. The exception is the rare female who goes completely off feed. Even when that happened, the female actually gained weight initially.

It’s usually 5 days as opposed to three, and not always a large mouse, now that I check my records (seems she was on a bit of a fuzzy kick for a while). She had pooped before any photo was taken (literally immediately before). Hadn’t been on a solid feeding schedule when I got her, she had actually been refusing, only been here for three months. Initially when I got her, it took a bit for her to start gaining anything at all. I will space out her feedings more, she’s not visibly over-conditioned at all if you look at her top down, however.
