My Green Bottle Blue
Beautiful! Still need to get myself one.
Do it David ![]()
This guy looks nothing like it did when I got it……
And will probably change some more as well. The blue legs will get more pronounced.
Well after getting my hermit crabs a bit ago i became obsessed with crabs and immediately my eyes were drawn to halloween moon crabs. I decided that if i ever saw some at my local pet store i’d get one. Well today was that day 6 months later! Meet Freddy the newest addition to my family!!! Normally i’m really slow at naming but this one was easy because Freddy Krueger (halloween moon crab, halloween themed name) and because my hermit crabs names all end in the e sound so it went right along with them! I also decided to get the one with two missing legs because the other crabs were bullying him and i felt bad lol. Also he took food as soon as i put it in there, i was honestly surprised how fast he grabbed it lol. Here he (or she) is!
I’ve seriously been interested in these for awhile now. Pretty awesome get!
He’s adorable, congrats!
I’m not familiar with Halloween crabs (I’ve heard of them, just don’t know anything about them). Are they similar to vampire crabs? (They look similar aside from their eyes.) What’s their care like? It looks like you maybe have him in a setup that’s at least partially terrestrial? What sort of water access do they need?
I love crabs, but have no interest in keeping a fish tank full of water. I decided a while ago that any creature that needs more water than a large water bowl was not for me. So that’s why I’m curious about these little crabs. If they don’t need to live in a tank of water, I might be interested in keeping some of these little cuties!
Their care is nearly identical to hermit crabs. The main differences are:
- They should be kept solo with no other crabs.
- They don’t need as big of an enclosure because you’re not keeping several (keeping several is possible but you’d need a way larger enclosure and they still may fight or hurt each other when molting)
- They don’t need as big of water bowls because it’s not as important for them to fully submerge and only one needs to fit in the water at once (because there’s only one in the tank)
- They are mainly herbivores and like their fruits and veggies, compared to hermits which are omnivores like protein as well as veggies and fruits.
They just need two water bowls; one with saltwater and one with freshwater.
Here’s a picture of his whole tank. I’ll probably add some more cover in for him to make him more comfortable though because he is very skittish right now, as well as adding more climbing stuff for him.
Hmm…might be getting one of these.
I had one for awhile and yes he was pretty fun and quite comical. He stayed buried most of the time and I never saw him eat much. I ended up gifting him to a friend with a couple of kids who really liked him.
Welcome to the family here. That’s a great spider!
I moved the camera that i had in my hermit crab enclosure to look at Freddy’s enclosure. He is so fun to watch eat! He walks out from under his driftwood, carefully inspects the food to find the right piece, then grabs it and takes it back into the wood! It’s so adorable
. My only problem now is i miss watching my hermit crabs, guess i gotta buy another camera ![]()
Wow that’s a very pretty spider! I only have one tarantula right now and i’m trying really hard to keep it that way lol. It’s really hard not to give into the temptation to buy more spiders!
Most definitely! Buy another camera! The crab story is precious!
It’s SO hard!! I have 6 spiders and there are literally DOZENS of other species that I really, really want to keep…but so little space. ![]()
