This is about to be the weirdest question ever, but do you notice these beetles have a scent? You mentioned above they are darkling or darkling-adjascent beetles, and I notice when I accidentally have a superworm pupate the adult beetles always have a super unique musky scent.
Not saying you have to sniff your beetles, just wondering if it was a species/family thing

Sorry, but I have not detected any such scent. However, I have spent the past thirty years working in and/or around wastewater, which has the tendency to desensitize your olfactory nerve.
In other words, I can’t smell much of nothing!

Fair enough! Mum always says she can smell my chilean rose tarantula and if she has a scent its long off my radar, so I get it

I was a smoker for about 15 years, which really decreased my sense of smell. Then I quit smoking, and my sense of smell came back. Right around the time I got a job that sometimes involves changing dirty (adult-sized) diapers.

So how are the beetles coming along? Did you find them in your back 40 or did you buy them? They are cool looking!
I bought a pink toe t yesterday and it has already scarfed down 2 small crickets. The little sucker is fast.

I ended up buying them. I really wanted desert beetles and there isnt any of that around here, thankfully. Bugs In Cyberspace had them online. They are doing pretty well. There were about 4 adults 5 smaller. Or they may all be adults. Not really sure. Only lost one big one. They are out and about doing bug stuff most days. Tank sits on my desk in the way of my printer, but I like it!
Oh and congrats on the pink toe! Mine is super cool. I love her.

Lol! I love that they do “bug stuff”! I’m glad they are doing well. And I’m sure they are quite low maintenance too.
So far I have a versi color, a curly, a pink toe and a Trinidad dwarf T. I want a few more but I don’t know what yet.

Females will max out at about 6" I believe. Ill try to get some pics of mine. She’s growing nicely.

They’re not huge (by tarantula standards), but they’re fast. That’s the main thing that’s given me pause about the species (and in fact the whole genus). But I LOVE the way they look.

So here is my Aphonopelma Seemanni. I picked it up a few weeks ago. I’m wary of this guy of course but it will practically take a dubia roach from tongs. It never hides either.

Looks amazing! Very recently bought a widow jumping spider for my sisters birthday which is meant to be arriving on the 25th but i havent been sent any email so im getting a bit worried. I did put in all the details correctly so hopefully it arrives!
