What new reptiles have you bought recently? 2.0

See I wondered that as well, but as far as I knew most viper boas are much darker. Something I definitely would love to have one day though, super cool species.

What about a Solomon island ground boa?

You are correct! I don’t want to share the sellers picture without her permission so I’ll try to get some tomorrow. She is so beautiful and it feels like Christmas

Yay! I took a look at some of them, and wow. The color variation on them and how they look is incredible! How big do they get? I’ve really only kept ball pythons, so I don’t know much about other species honestly.

They can have a nice variation. The males average about 3ft and females 4-5ft. I had actually planned on getting a high white one, but then I saw this female from the same breeder and I just couldn’t say no. She is potentially gravid which would be an interesting challenge as I am not experienced with live bearers, but long term I have no plans on breeding this species and she will just be a lovely pet.

I’m one of those. When I have space for a larger enclosure, boas are going to be towards the top of the list.

That’s three confirmed! I think that officially makes @lumpy a trendsetter

@erie-herps

You can make space easy. I saw a picture years ago where someone raised their bed up and put cages under their bed with sliding doors on them. If you have a king bed, you will have lots of room for multiple cages.  I do have a link on my site for free cage prints and cut sheets.

I actually just got a new bed and I’m planning on building a frame where I can put VE racks underneath it, but now I’m going to look into putting cages underneath instead.

0h! I see a new way I can fit at least four more boas in my room lol :joy:. I think that brings me up to enough room to house 12 to 18 adults in T8s :upside_down_face:.

Make it 4

Not going to lie, you’ve got me looking at Solomon island ground boas now, thinking “how do I convince my wife we need one of these….”

I’m sure she’ll send her thanks lol

@lumpy, you’ve also convinced me that I need a boa in my life. Still planning to get one as soon as I can bring the new crazy cats under control.

Lol another part of the revolution :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Can boas live in T8’s for their whole life? Or does it depend on the sex and/or individual? Now I’m starting to think…

Most morph boas are going to be fine in them. If you overfeed them, they will get too big. Females might need a bigger enclosure if you aren’t breeding. Most breeders are able to be kept in T8s and large and old females get like T10s. But males without a doubt they will be great in there.

Okay, I am starting to seriously consider boas now. That’s a smaller enclosure size than what I thought and it only costs $200-300 for a setup. They do fall towards the bottom of the list in terms of what I’m buying, and it will be at least a couple years before I can get them. But, getting them is starting to be a realistic possibility now.

Will pictures help?

She was a bit stressed and dark during pic taking, but I’m still blown away at how beautiful she is.

And a crummy belly picture my husband took. I wish the pictures could convey just how pretty she is. Her old name is Joan, not sure yet what I’m going to call her.
