What's your Dream Herptile?

I know I’m boring, but eventually I want to get a really nice Lilly White Crested Gecko, and a Banana pied Ball Python. Both are definitely achievable, but right now, I just have to live vicariously through those of you who already have them

This thread deserves more attention lol.

Anyway, I have a ton.

  • Yellow headed water monitor
  • Argus Monitor
  • A big male Mexican beaded lizard
  • Yellow tail cribo (The superior cousin to the eastern indigo)
  • Aldabra Tortoise
  • Australian water dragon
  • Argentine boa
  • large male common snapping turtle
  • parsons chameleon
  • Egyptian Uro
  • green iguana (need to make it up to the iguana gods from when my dad used to have 2)
  • Burmese mountain tortoise

I for sure left a lot out but I think you get the picture. I also try my best to stay realistic. Plus I am just not interested in some of the more expensive ones like boelons or eastern indigos.

In 3 or so years if everything goes well over here then i could possibly help you with that lol. Argentine boas are the best choice!

I don’t think there could be better timing than that! I am going to be graduating in 2027 so I can probably use that to my advantage to get my parents to agree to me getting one.

Lucky me, I only have honestly two wants:

  • Morelia viridis
  • Ahaetulla nasuta

Arboreals are my favorite type of snakes, but space is always at a premium. Realistically I will probably only be able to get one of the above, if I do.

I don’t think i’ve ever said this but i’m also around your age lol. I graduate in 2026 so i’m only 16 right now. Love having other people my age being so passionate about the same things as me because most of my friends don’t have the same love for these animals as me.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t necessarily change as you get older. Or at least, it didn’t change for me. I know plenty of people who are animal lovers, but not quite on the same level as me. Especially when it comes to reptiles and inverts. Even the few friends I have who keep reptiles themselves are not as much of an obsessive geek about it as I am. :joy:

That’s why I love this community. It’s comforting to know that there are people in the world who are at least as eccentric as I am. It makes me feel less alone. :joy:

I kind of always assumed that you were more in the 20ish year old range only due to the fact that you were able to afford such an expensive snake. Speaking of which… how did you? Tell me the ways! please. I am so broke it isn’t even funny. ok, maybe it is a bit if I am asking a 16 year old whose name I don’t even know for financial advice

As an also broke youth (though older than you two), I need to know :joy:

I just saved for many many years lol. I don’t really like spending my money so i ended up accumulating quite a bit of money and finally decided to spend it on my dream snake. Now i just gotta do it all over again to get a male but with the added bonus of a job so it shouldn’t take as incredibly long as before. It also helps that i don’t have anything i need to pay like bills so i can just spend my money on animals lol.

yeah, I don’t think I can do that. I spend pretty much all my money on my animals, some of which aren’t very necessary but whatever gives them the best life is a win for me. You are really lucky that your parents allow you to do all the stuff you are doing.

I just have no savings :joy: :sob: college and now grad school costs really suck you dry. All my grad school applications were MINIMUM $60 each :sob:

I think my miracle-possible dream would be to have a big tortoise. or just a big garden FULL of little rescue torts. Russians and anything smaller. Hermanns and their varieties. A whole HERD of shell babies to spoil out in the sunshine and then brumate/overwinter them in my basement on big custom turtle tables. I have the room! Just not the muscle. Ah well.
