Whoops! Guess I've started my 2026 season

Here’s a few photos of two of the wild types. They are very clearly not the teeny tiny little wiggle worms they used to be!

Another mixed update about the room situation/my snakes. Over the weekend I signed the agreement with the bed company for $150 reimbursement for cleaning supplies, as well as the replacement of the contaminated bed sections. This means there is finally an end in sight for this disaster. We decided to skip pulling my carpet for now, and will instead be HEPA vacuuming it and cleaning the room out. Tentative plan for the flooring is to replace it in September when it is cooler, as we’ve had some brutal heat over the last few weeks that threw a wrench in plans. For now I’m still displaced to the basement for a while longer.

As for the snakes, today I got one of my big goals done and moved all my remaining 2025s into larger enclosures. They seem quite happy with this. I still have to feed and water most of my animals, but that’s no big deal.

Now onto garter updates! I swear, these kids are growing exponentially. I need to get weights on everyone, but one has already had their second real shed, and the rest should follow soon. The shed interval was a mere 21 days! The smaller garter bin is getting 3 large pinkies per feeding, while the larger are currently getting four. Might have to up both numbers depending on how weigh ins go.

Well I’m glad you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. And you’re going to see at least some monetary reimbursement, but that doesn’t make up for the mental stress over the safety of your animals, not to mention the mess.

However the fact that you didn’t lose any them is a check mark on the plus side. Another plus is the babies are cleaning their plates and growing!

Happy update.

Keep believing that the heat will break and keep delighting in the progress of your little ones. They’re trying really hard to become big ones!

We finally got a bit of a heat break today, it’s supposed to be rainy all day with a high of 66ºF so I plan to take full advantage of it and get as much done as possible.

Hooray for rainy and cool! I am really hoping for the same concept here. Unfortunately, those temps in the 60s are only in a loooooooong range forecast here.

So glad you’re seeing the end in sight, Jess. A big sigh of relief for you!

So there is one garter that is leading the pack in weight. Number 10, who was 4.8g last weigh in, is now 5.7g. Big kids bin weight range is 4.3g-5.7g, with only two of six 5g or over. The little kids bin ranges from 3.6g-4.2g, with three of five 4g or over.

Good weights all around!

Not snake related, but room timeline related. Got a call from the company today about the bed replacement, and due to lead times on parts, I won’t have a proper bed until the second week of September. While I am relieved that this gives me plenty of time to clean everything and prepare…I’m really not enjoying the prospect of another month in the basement on a leaky inflatable mattress. (Yes, I’m aware of the irony that my Sleep Number bed is just a really fancy inflatable mattress, but it’s different enough that the one I’m on has made my pain levels significantly worse.)

That sucks if you pardon my language! I know about pain trust me! I think that company should send you a loaner! A restful nights sleep is so important!

I went out yesterday and bought a different style of floor air mattress for the time being. It’s smaller, but seems to better distribute the pressure, so less problems.

Glad you can get slightly better sleep in the meantime. So sorry you’re going through all this!
