Xenodermus Javanicus

Thought I’d share some photos, Rhaenyra, my female Dragon Snake. Xenodermus javanicus. I’ve had her for 6 months now, and she’s a long term captive. Awesome animal.

This is a very unique snake to be posted here! I for one have no experience with this type animal. Would you mind sharing the husbandry/keeping information?

Are you planning on breeding her?

There is a previous thread about these snakes with husbandry information. They are not yet established in captivity, hence why the OP’s snake is long term captive. The thread in question:

These snakes are truly incredible.

They look like a mythical creature, its such a shame they are so hard to care for in captivity but Its really cool that you have this one who has survived long-term captivity though.

I’m curious, what do these guys even eat?

She’s really gorgeous and unique!

They eat frogs and tadpoles, mainly partial to green tree and squirrel tree frogs

I brought in a handful of specimens to try breeding, and despite medical intervention, the males came in really rough condition. For now it’s just the female - if a LTC male pops up I’d be happy to give it another shot but I don’t want to keep bringing in imports that don’t survive!

Awwww that’s a shame that the animals had such a rough time. I know it’s heartbreaking for you as well. But best wishes for the female to hopefully thrive!:pray:
