A new line of Axanthics?

It would be super cool if they are a new blood line of Axanthics that you could start working with. But yeah let us know about the other shed tests when you get them back!

I’m really excited for a Grey Rider podcast this afternoon and the RGI podcast Tuesday. I’m totally Jonesing for some new morph test. I guess the fact we’ve been talking about a possible MJ/GCR test for a year speaks to how hard it is to develop a new test.

Best of luck!

Any news yet on the tests?

Unfortunately GCR/MJ Axanthic wasn’t one of the 10 tests released Tuesday. Still waiting patiently.

Has anyone heard what the hang up is on this test?

No idea. As I understood it, they were very close months ago. I assume the last batch for the test wasn’t great.

GCR/MJ test info: they do still look like they are the same mutation. We had a mutation in the promoter region of a gene known to play a role in color/pattern that looked very good, and ended up being correct over 95% of the time…BUT, we also found it in a small number of animals should not have any GCR or MJ in them. So, it looks like that mutation is not the correct one, but it is VERY close to the correct one since our testing is over 95% correct.

So, hopefully we will get lucky and get this test finished up soon…but we never know. Sometimes we get super close only to have to go back two or three steps and start all over again. So, keep your fingers crossed for us!!!

Thanks @rgi and welcome to the community. Do you have any idea when the shed test results will be out? I don’t know if you are the one doing the shed testing but guessing so because I think you guys are the most popular shed tester, but if not don’t worry about answering.

Thanks for the update! I’m so looking forward to this! Welcome to the forums!

So one question. If I were desperate for any info possible and willing to accept 95% Could I get that?

Any news yet on the tests? I thought tests took like 2-3 business days for a single test and maybe a week or so for a pallet and it’s been like a month.

Tests that have been released take up to a week for results. They’re still developing the GCR/MJ test so it’s impossible to have results yet. And they wouldn’t tell us first when they are developed. They’ll need to speak to the heads of morphmarket’s and Kinova’s testing sites so they can be added and updated.

Yep, that’s exactly it. Still waiting as patiently as possible.

I just got my first lock ever from the Black head Axanthic Pied from this clutch last year. I’m putting him to several girls this year to get a lot of incomplete doms in the mix. This female was a GHI Mahogany Pied from 2022 in her first pairing. I’m trying to get a lot of dark genes as well as DG into the combo.

Dr. Morrill at RGI mentioned the MJ/GCR test in the last two podcasts. If I remember right the latest test was “correct” for something like 100 or even 200 animals and only hold up was 2 or 3 unexpected het results in animals assumed to be normal. As many times as it’s popped up unexpectedly in collections and believed to trace back to an early Kahl animal like 20 years ago I wouldn’t be surprised if 1-2% of captive bred balls are unexpected hets. I would be tempted to ask if they will just run the pre-release test for you.

Well that’s pretty much the weird luck for Black Axanthic and TSK.
VPI somehow ended up with 2 TSK hets and the resulting offspring weren’t compatible with the existing VPI axanthic.

So it wouldn’t be surprising if the that’s the same story for MJ/GCR.
Especially since who knows how many hets were floating around before each breeder coincidentally hatched the visual.

Surprise albino or pied hets are pretty common.
I need to test a batch for possible desert ghost because a half sibling popped out a visual.

I wish I knew someone with a female MJ/GCR that they didn’t have breeding plans for. At this point it may be faster to just breed my male to a known MJ/GCR. Each week I watch the RGI video hoping that the test is ready. I don’t know if a pre-release test is an option @RGI , but if it is I’m game.

Lol, it’s not. I’m waiting on the update for Special as well. My hatchling who is obviously a BEL combo tested negative for Baker special and single gene mojo. So need the NoCo or TCR test and they told me to wait until they announce the test
