Thank you, sir! I was excited about this pair’s possibilities in 2024. Knowing what they produced then, I am suuuuuuperrrr excited for this year’s babies.
Those eggs look absolutely perfect!
I will hope right along with you! I will hope the same for my painting arm, which hasn’t been super mobile for a while now due to a shoulder injury. The body has an amazing ability to heal itself, I keep telling myself! I do hope that whatever intervention and professional help you need will be available, too! ![]()

A great big AMEN to that sister! ![]()
It’s times like these that you really do need to live Closer! to me!!!
But you and Dan are definitely on my prayer list! ![]()
Ooohh, I feel for that. Just had a couple months of PT for rotator cuff problems. Shoulder issues can be a rough fix. Prayers for that from me. ![]()
Agreed! All prayers appreciated and good wishes, thank you.
We’re a regular group of aging old ladies on here! ![]()

at least we can commiserate together while we simultaneously enjoy our snakes—@caryl while she hobbles in and out of the snake room, @caron while she takes solace in slither therapy before the stress test, and me trying not to groan audibly when I try to raise and lower the upper bins of the adults. ![]()
Yup @snakesofshadowlake!

We’re the golden oldie girls of the MMC!
Oh no, Caryl! I’m so sorry to hear that. Sending positive vibes and lots of prayers your way ![]()

Buuuuut that’s great news on the new clutch!! I’m so glad Annelie laid with no complications. And you’re gonna get some amazing babies to boot!!
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s take the W whenever possible. For example, this morning I walkered out to the kitchen and got out some celery stalks, an onion, and a green bell pepper (yes, I breathed in the scent and dreamed of coming pippies). I put them on the counter and sweetly told Dan that, sometime around 11 or so, he needed to chop them all up along with some bacon. I walkered back to bed. W.
Veggies and bacon were duly chopped. Dan got out a can of tomatoes, rice, salt, pepper. I returned to the kitchen, sat on a bar stool with my feet up on a chair and cooked. Felt like being on a cooking show, having a sous chef to prep. W again.
I am back in bed, wrapped and icing and elevating the knee with heat between my shoulder blades. Are there things I’d rather be doing? Yup. But I’ve spent too much time confined to bed to not appreciate even my currently limited mobility. W.
There was a “Thought for the Day” on the board on my classroom, actually changed daily, often chosen by students. Here’s a goody attributed to Bob Dylan. “Even if you don’t have all the things that you want, be grateful for the things you don’t want that you don’t have.”
I am blessed.
If Narcissa is gravid, as she does indeed appear to be, I should have a bit more info on prospective babies’ genetics. Just took advantage of RGI’s sale and ordered a Stripe test for Raiden. He’s 50% ph Stripe from his sire. Narcissa isn’t carrying Stripe or Motley to my knowledge so the pairing won’t yield any info in that regard. It will be handy to know for future plans with Raiden himself. It will also provide additional info for the babies. Saying they’re ph Stripe from a ph Stripe parent is less informative than saying they are 50% ph Stripe because a parent is absolutely het Stripe.
Amen Amen dear friend! ![]()

So what were you ( and Dan) cooking?
It’s an old family favorite we call Elsie Mae Rice. It’s kind of a Spanish rice dish, quick and delicious. Elsie Mae and her husband were good friends of my parents. I don’t know how it got started but when I was small, any time Mom went to visit Elsie Mae, I wanted this rice dish. I wanted it at home, too. It was just one of those things thrown together by a talented cook, not from a cookbook, and little Caryl Sue called it Elsie Mae Rice. Mom wrote down how Elsie Mae made it. On the index card Mom wrote for her recipe box, it’s Elsie Mae Rice. That’s what we called it while I was growing up, and what I wrote on another card when I got married. My kids grew up eating Elsie Mae Rice. Two of them cook it for their families. One asks me to cook it whenever I visit. ![]()
Awwwww! It sounds delicious! I have an old recipe fave in my head and maybe on an index card somewhere - Grandma Potatoes. Butter and bacon grease included…… need I say more! ![]()
Yumm. Two of the basic essential seasonings I grew up enjoying!
I think we should bring back lard! The Best grandma recipes are made with it ![]()
A few Thanksgivings ago I was determined to succeed at Parkerhouse rolls as light as Mom’s. Mine are usually fine, but hers were incredible. Light enough to float up for the angels to take a bite and so full of flavor they clearly belonged in heaven. The only place I could source lard was more of a commercial cooking supply store. The smallest amount I could get was 3 lbs. Bought it on the grocery run Saturday before Thanksgiving. Stored it in the pantry where shortening was usually kept to await the day. Came home from school Monday to a mess in the dog’s crate and a very, very happy dog. She’d eaten it all, greasing her crate and herself pretty thoroughly in the process. She didn’t even have the grace to be ashamed.
