My mom used it for pie crust for every pie she ever made. And her crust was the best. I don’t eat meat etc now, but I’d definitely make an exception for her lemon meringue pie.

Oh, you’re not kidding! She was like a 50-60 lb dog. In ripping open the package she covered her face and paws. She was one who’d wash her face like a cat sometimes which was counterproductive to say the least. Dog and crate were as thoroughly greased as any pie pan when we got home. There’s were also greasy dog tracks over much of the kitchen. Absolutely the only thing which seemed to have absolutely no lard on it was the container in which the lard had come.

Looks like Narcissa is in blue for her pre-lay shed. I weighed her today. She’s gained over 50 g since 09 April and definitely has eggs. Yayy!

@deanaii & @caryl Funny you should mention the lemon meringue pie! My mom used shortening and made her own crust as well. She would beat the eggs so hard that the meringue was so high on the pie she had to remove the top rack of the oven so the pie would fit! I too miss my mom’s lemon meringue pie!

I absolutely know what you mean. I always feel close to Mom (and Elsie Mae, Sharon, Aunt Bert, my children and all the other contributors) when I search through the old recipe box. Sometimes analog really is the best.

Narcissa had her prelay shed late Tuesday night. That was only Day 23 after her second mating, which is what I generally count from. (First lock was 3 days earlier.) She is mostly hanging out on the penthouse, aka the top of her nest box. I can feel a decent number of egg bumps. I think I felt a dozen but I’m admittedly not very reliable at counting them accurately when they’re not laid.

Got a couple of updates. Annelie had her post-lay shed. She’s got a fresh lovely look and will get a meal later today. Narcissa has come down from the penthouse and is snuggling around in the moss inside her nest box.
And then there’s this. Purple Wonder (RF Diffused Strawberry Lavender Motley 66% ph Anery, 50% ph Caramel) has gotten all bumpy with potential eggs. She was paired with Galahad (Moonstone Masque het Amel, Diffused Strawberry, Stripe) last year. I wasn’t planning on pairing her this season but dang it, she feels like she’s going to lay anyway. There’s zero point in a clutch of slugs which is still a biological cost to the dam. So I put the pair together.

I have health issues too, POTS and hEDS specifically. Makes it incredibly hard to walk with my chronic pain from hEDS, I have to use mobility aids frequently. My joints are constantly dislocating and I have juvenile arthritis or whatever it’s called. Most days I’m held together by KT tape, joint braces, and a dream. My friends call me their nana because “my bones are older than all of theirs combined” (I’m 17, the joke is that my bones are exactly 87)
I’m lucky to have friends who can make light of anything 
, they love racing me through the hallways when I’m in my wheelchair. And doctors do suck at diagnosing things fr
