Narcissa scarfed down two fuzzies today. She looks thinner, of course, but she looks good. Annelie also had a meal. I assume she’s going to try and double clutch whether I want her to or not. Still wishing for snake birth control!
You will need a script for that!!! ![]()
If such a thing existed, believe me, I would be at the vet asking for it! ![]()
Haha. Ditto. Take a break, girls. Sheesh!
Thought I’d share an update on the progress around here. Annelie and Allstar’s 16 eggs all look fantastic. I realized when I checked I’m them today that they’re possibly less than a month from pipping!! 60 days from laying will be 26 June. They may not arrive before the end of June but then again they might. So, yay.
Looks like two of Raiden and Narcissa’s 16 eggs are just not going to develop. Those two are still candling golden without visible veins or embryo. It’s Day 17, so I should be seeing something by now if they were going to develop. That’s a little disappointing but the other 14 look great so I can’t be too sad.
And finally, Purple Wonder had a possible pre-lay shed. I need to take a picture of her but have been chasing my tail and not gotten a chance to do it during daylight. She’s too pretty to take pics in terrible lighting.
At any rate, her shed was on 28 May, only Day 20 or 18 depending on if you count from the first or second lock. That’s a bit shorter interval than last year but not much. She feels gravid to me. She refused her last two meals before the shed. She also refused an offering after the shed. I dislike it when they do that but she was in good shape. Hopefully it won’t cause trouble if she lays.
Here’s Purple Wonder this morning. She’s been lying behind the nest box, but this morning I found her inside. She’s even cleared a space in which to lie. Hmmm.
Oh my such anticipation! ![]()

Sooo exciting! Go Purple Wonder!
Fingers crossed. One of the most beautiful corns.
Thanks, everybody. Hoping that the lovely Purple Wonder soon has some eggs soon.

Here’s to hoping they’re fertilized and healthy.
Well, I came home last night to this. She laid one more slug overnight but appears to be done. I haven’t had a chance to candle them yet but looks like maybe 3 fertile eggs. Better than nothing, especially considering that Purple Wonder was really determined to lay. I wasn’t planning pair her again this season, so I think the mating happened later in her cycle. She laid on Day 25. (Pardon the terrible indoor lighting.)
Hopefully the three are good and hatch. ![]()
Any good eggs from her will no doubt be lovely if they look anything like her!
Got an egg update. Allstar and Annelie’s eggs continue to progress perfectly. Their target hatch date of 26 June is going to be here soon, but I am still mostly ignoring it lol.
Raiden and Narcissa’s clutch has 14 of the 16 eggs going strong. Two eggs have not shown any development. One is on the bottom of the clutch. The other is on top. I tried to detach them but they’re firmly attached so I just left them. Didn’t want to damage the neighboring eggs. The rest all show wonderful, normal vein development.
Finally, here are Galahad and Purple Wonder’s eggs which were laid 04 June. I really think that these were fertilized juuuuuust before the window closed. None have ideal calcification but should be all right. Three are fairly typical for eggs with “stars.” The fourth seems to have a weaker shell. I’ve put it on a plastic cap in the moss to keep it from absorbing too much moisture. These four all have very respectable veins for freshly laid eggs. Fingers crossed.
I’m excited for you @caryl Caryl! I know you had to downsize this year so as always I’m hoping for every egg to hatch and produce healthy babies! ![]()

Thanks, Caron.
I hope everyone whose egg looks good now hatches out healthy. They’re may be a few additions. Annelie is blue again and she does feel like she’s going to lay a few more. Guess we’ll see.
Those eggs look fantastic. Funny that you call the spots “stars.” I didn’t know that was a thing! ![]()
