Above is a link to an Imgur upload of him walking around! He moves… with a deliberate purpose. That’s the best way I can describe it. He shed his skin since we last spoke, so I’m getting him all rehydrated n eating 'cause the night before he sheds he adamantly refuses anything to eat.
Oh my goodness that is the cutest little guy! He is adorable and gorgeous! He definitely looks like he is on a mission! That’s the only way I can describe it!
Kudos to you, @nygma, for everything you’ve done for this fortunate little fellow. It’s wonderful to read these updates. He does indeed move very purposefully. Seems serious and focused and determined, but not negative. I don’t think I said that clearly, but what I’m trying to say is that the little guy is precious and you’ve done wonderfully.
It’s been awhile. I’m pleased to say the little guy is still going strong and will be moving up a size in baby bins here pretty soon! Eats, poops, climbs, sheds and runs around all on his own. He needs no help from no man! Or at least he’d like to think. Will try to find the time to post some pics.
Wow @nygma That is so heartwarming to hear! You have done an absolutely phenomenal job with the little guy! Sometimes these little creatures just need someone to believe in them as they seem to believe in themselves! Can’t wait for pictures!
Not sure if the images will load correctly since I’ve only ever done this on my laptop, but this was tonight! He doesn’t look much bigger but believe me when I say he needs a larger bin now lol.
Until I have more updates on Quasimodo, take this picture of my girl Peach. Aptly named after the shape of her frog butt. I got her for free from my store as well, as she’d dropped her tail and was considered “damaged”/“blemished”. She’s going through her first egg cycle atm! Not breeding her because she’s not really… breeder quality lol. You can see what I mean by her head alone
So glad to hear that little Quasimodo continues to do well! You’ve done a great job rehabilitating him, it sounds like he’s finally getting the life he deserves with you. He’s definitely a cutie!
Awww, how special! I’m so happy to read and see that the little guy is doing so well with you, @nygma . It’s wonderful that you have helped him to overcome his challenges to such a degree. The cheers for Quasimodo!
Hello everyone. It’s been awhile since I’ve updated on Quasi.
He’s growing, but I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing at this point. He has no change in behavior. Eats great, poops and passes urates without issue, he also jumps now. But as he’s grown I’ve noticed the kink in his spine has become a lot more pronounced even with my efforts to give him as much UVB, calcium and other vitamin supplements as possible.
I have been told that as long as he behaviorally exhibits no changes not to worry about it too much, but seeing the big dip in the middle of his back is always gonna be a worry. Otherwise he’s still doing as geckos do. Very active, loves his Repashy and eats nearly every day. Thoughts?
What UVB are you using, what are you feeding, how, how often? Could there be any chance that he’s somehow lacking in something? Too much UVB or fruits/insects with too little added calcium could cause problems, but maybe he was born with some kind of inability to absorb vit D and/or calcium? Poor little thing, good thing you’ve been working hard to help him at least
I use the Arcadia Shadedweller, the smaller one I believe, it’s the 7%? I could be mistaken. I’ll have to look at the box when I get home. (I’m a freak and keep all the boxes for my lights for at least 30 days in case I find that they aren’t working.) I did have him under the ExoTerra little spiral 13W UVB bulb but since he got moved into a larger enclosure I felt like he could take the strip now.
I feed Repashy CG MRP, about once a week I give him the Banana Cream Pie kind which he seems to really like. Who wouldn’t. Smells great to me too. And then sometimes He’ll also go for the Grubs 'N Fruit variety which I usually keep on hand for my gargoyle gecko. As for insects he gets them about once a week, he’s got great aim for his… condition. I go for small crickets that I’ll feed the same Repashy MRP to along with some other fruits to get them loaded with something more nutritional. He’ll eat six or so at a time before turning his head up. Always calcium dusted because I worry as he grows his bones will continue to worsen (which I fear is happening anyways.) Occasional wax worm here and there, also calcium dusted.
I have also been giving him some reptivite with D3 supplementally as well.
All in all I’m not sure what the best move would be. The veterinarian I’ve visited has said as long as he exhibits no behavioral changes not to worry too much, but to keep an eye on him as he develops since his bones are very malformed. That they may not accommodate his growing organs as he gains size, so on so forth. Behaviorally he has not changed. He acts like any other young gecko. Runs and jumps now (which wasn’t always the case.) Has unremarkable bowel movements, urates look fine and aren’t of any concern based off of visuals. Eats without issue. Sheds also without issue.
He is such an endearing little creature! Obviously his quality of life is of the essence. If he is running and jumping it would seem that he is not experiencing pain? He is so blessed that you have given him so much care and love! God bless you for that!
