MorphMarket "Of The Month" Contest Rules

The following are the rules for each of the MorphMarket Reptile Community monthly photography contests. This is not for submissions.

You may enter only 1 item per contest, to a total of 4 pictures and 1 video.

Please read over each set of rules before submitting your entries.

Reptile of The Month (RoTM).

Please use the rotm tag to help clarify that this is the contest you are entering.

  • The picture must be taken by you and be of an animal or group of animals that belong to you.
  • Photo editing cannot be used in this contest.
  • Watermarks may contain the photographer’s name or a basic logo
  • Pictures can be entered in the submission thread from the beginning of the month through to the 20th. After then, the submission thread will be closed.
  • Official voting (in a separate thread) will be open from the 21st until the last day of the month.
  • Winners will be announced on the 1st of the following month.
  • If more than 25 entries are submitted per contest, the number of likes will determine which entries will be selected to officially enter the contest.

Ball Python of The Month (BPoTM).

Please use the bpotm tag to help clarify that this is the contest you are entering.

  • The picture must be taken by you and be of a Ball Python or a group of Ball Pythons that belong to you.
  • Photo editing cannot be used in this contest.
  • Watermarks may contain the photographer’s name or a basic logo
  • Pictures can be entered in the submission thread from the beginning of the month through to the 20th. After then, the submission thread will be closed.
  • Official voting (in a separate thread) will be open from the 21st until the last day of the month.
  • Winners will be announced on the 1st of the following month.
  • If more than 25 entries are submitted per contest, the number of likes will determine which entries will be selected to officially enter the contest.

Amphibian/Invertebrate of The Month (AIoTM).

Please use the aiotm tag to help clarify that this is the contest you are entering.

  • The picture must be taken by you and be of an Amphibian/Invertebrate or group of Amphibians/Invertebrates that belong to you.
  • Photo editing cannot be used in this contest.
  • Watermarks may contain the photographer’s name or a basic logo
  • Pictures can be entered in the submission thread from the beginning of the month through to the 20th. After then, the submission thread will be closed.
  • Official voting (in a separate thread) will be open from the 21st until the last day of the month.
  • Winners will be announced on the 1st of the following month.

Themed Photo of The Month (PoTM).

Please use the potm tag to help clarify that this is the contest you are entering.

  • The picture must be taken/created by you and be of an animal or group of animals that belong to you.
  • AI-generated art is accepted.
  • Photo editing can be used in this contest.
  • Watermarks may contain the photographer’s name or a basic logo
  • Pictures can be entered in the submission thread from the beginning of the month through to the 20th. After then, the submission thread will be closed.
  • Official voting (in a separate thread) will be open from the 21st until the last day of the month.
  • Winners will be announced on the 1st of the following month.
  • If more than 25 entries are submitted per contest, the number of likes will determine which entries will be selected to officially enter the contest.

Video of The Month (VoTM).

Please use the votm tag to help clarify that this is the contest you are entering.

  • Videos must be posted on YouTube first and then shared in this thread using the link.
  • Any submitted videos must be your own or one on which you collaborated and have permission to share.
  • Any submitted videos must be over one minute long but no longer than 60 minutes.
  • Video editing can be used in this contest.
  • Watermarks may contain the photographer’s name or a basic logo
  • Videos can be entered in the submission thread from the beginning of the month through to the 20th. After then, the submission thread will be closed.
  • Official voting (in a separate thread) will be open from the 21st until the last day of the month.
  • Winners will be announced on the 1st of the following month.
  • If more than 25 entries are submitted per contest, the number of likes will determine which entries will be selected to officially enter the contest.
  • All content within submitted videos must follow the MorphMarket Reptile Community Guidelines. (Purely educational feeding videos are allowed as long as a disclaimer is added. No live feeding videos are allowed at all)
  • Submitted videos can be reviews (not breeders/sellers) or unboxing of products (not animals) but must be honest and non-promotional.
  • All submitted videos must be PG-friendly. If it can’t be watched on the TV with children around then don’t post it.
  • Please keep flickering light/images to a minimum. This is a good rule to follow in general for videos as for some it can cause heavy discomfort or worse.

A few changes @lumpy and I have been working on.

  • We have brought the rules all under one topic here and cleaned them up a little. This;

    • Makes it easier to create the contests
    • Give us a place for discussion around the contests themselves
    • Keeps the submissions topics nice and tidy.
  • We have started adding the past months winners into the current contest threads, as this gives the winners another place to show off their pictures and also gives us a pretty thumbnail.

  • “Of The Year” winners will be featured here in the rules thread.

  • We are starting to request (not mandatory) that you add a description of your submission pictures, as this allows people using screen readers to take part also.
