My first ever clutch

I don’t think how careful you were with her mattered, those eggs were already in progress when she got to you. The original clutch made it pretty clear she was paired at an off time for her, or possibly had something else going on. The first clutch for anyone is a learning experience, you’ll do better with any in the future because of this.

would the stress of moving have affected the fertility? in total we had 24 eggs 12 calcified 4 total with veins 2 of which are hatching

To be honest, I don’t think we have enough data on things like that to know. You also said she was a rescue that was overweight and had been slimmed down, so there’s far too many variables to know if it was outside influence or just poor fertility either from her or the contributing male.

its all just rather unfortunate really but at least there are still 2 babies 1 hatched and 1 pipping

Wow, so much has happened today! Congrats on the pretty little Amel who’s emerged! It’s on the small side but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll stay that way. Small babies generally catch up just fine and grow into normally sized adults. They just need smaller prey items. About its coloring, the saddles will gain color and full in a it grows. Most Amels have very little red in the saddles on their rear portions. Your little one may be Reverse Oketee, time will tell.

I’m sorry that you lost one after it slit its egg. It does happen to most of us but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating and sad. Sometimes the baby has an obvious deformity, other times it seems perfect. Btw, I’m not sure what you mean about the eggshell flaking, but some stretch marks are normal and not usually a cause for concern).

Looking forward to more updates. And more pics!

Lovely amel tessera which definitely answers the father which means they have the potential to be RF too? We’ll just have to wait and see until they shed

Just weighed the new baby

A healthy 8g. Also about the last egg. Not any good news… No movement nothing decided to open the egg a bit more and still nothing. After we decided to take it out the egg knlwing it was dead sadly. It didnt really look good either it had 2 kinks in the spine mouth slightly open extremely small and a few more kinks throughout the body. Quite sad really

Aw, I’m sorry to hear that. I had one last year that pipped and made it out of the egg on its own, but was severely kinked in many spots. Euthanizing is not fun.

Your healthy baby looks great, though! Now the fun wait for the first shed!

I sure am looking forward to that! Ive got them both set up next to eachother at the moment

these 2 are very active babies and dont flinch or try to bite when handling either. Also do you start offering water after the first shed too?

It was probably for the best that the little one didn’t make it if they were kinked. That second healthy hatchling looks great! As for water, that’s one I usually put in immediately after I move them to baby bins.

Ok then thanks for all of the help!

Yup, I put water in with them as soon as they’re in their bins.
