Great thanks so much!
I agree, if definitely try insects. And since he can find the food well, one option for should be fine. Cresties can go a few days without eating, esp when new but I’m sure he will be fine once he settles.
He may like a variety. I make my Cresties food quite thick but have 1 that prefers it a little more watery.
Maybe try different thickness of the food too?
Thanks for the advice! Will definitely try it out
Hello, this morning when I woke up I was confused to see mango still awake because I have never ever seen him awake after I wake up and it has been like 3 hours the sun is high in the sky but he is still awake and I thought this was odd. he is just sitting their turning his head very few minutes to look around but he has been like that for hours I wouldn’t care if he was asleep but he is wide awake in the middle of the day and I thought this odd. Is this normal behavior?
I did hold him in in the morning after I woke up and he was fine moving around my hand calmly but it’s just odd how he is still awake. I have never ever seen him awake during the day especially since he is just sitting their looking around I would assume if he is awake he would at least explore his vivaria. He is also breathing quit heavenly more than I have seen him Is their not enough humidity maybe to much?? The temperature is fine around 70f
But ya I have never seen him breath so much except when I first held him because he was probably scared. their is nothing to be afraid of in his terrarium so I don’t know why. He is also fired up which I have never seen him do during the day.
I don’t know if it’s just me but his eyes also seem to be bulging
Otherwise he seems fine
But I am quit worried
So what I am trying to say is that is it normal for them to be awake during the day but only in one spot just looking around? Especially if they are breathing a little bit heavy? Do you think he is hungry? Or maybe thirsty or something?
Sometimes mine do that, so I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. Mine will also sometimes sit in one spot and not move much. I think they sleep and then look around a bit every once in a while. Cresties sleep with their eyes open so he could just be sleeping and looking around.
Ok Thankyou it just he has never done this and he seems sluggish I know for sure he is awake because he will turn his head to like around and he dose move his eyes. I just found it odd also the fact he seems to be breathing more heavier than usual
He doesn’t really move around just stays in one spot looking around
A lot of mine are out and about during the day.
So it’s totally normal!
I have one Crestie in particular that comes out and just sits on her coconut watching throughout the day. She doesn’t move other then her head on occasion.
The fast breathing is usually due to stress. He could just be a little nervous watching you.
I wouldn’t worry too much (although i do worry a lot) as long as his active like usual at night time tonight
Ok that’s good😅 I believe he fell asleep about an hour ago. I did end up covering his tank with a towel because I noticed every time I walked by his tank he would sort of turn his head and look at me and I assumed that prevented him from falling asleep probably because he was nervous and scared although he has never shown any signs of being openly afraid of me but after I covered his vivaria he calmed down and eventually fell asleep.
I just recently started holding him. I usually wait a week before handling my reptiles. that is what I did with him and his first holding session he did great, really calm and just walked around I believe the third and second time were the same and I wonder if this new behavior has something to do with that. It not like being held is new for him the breeder let me know that he was handled daily.
Hello, so he has started sleeping in the day more which is good but I wanted to ask a question since he has not eaten in a while.
So I usually feed my cresties 2-3 times a week so every two nights (I think I have mentioned this before) and last night I fed him for I believe the 4th time yet he still did not touch his food even though I followed all your recommendations for getting him to eat.
He actually did eat his food the first night he arrived but after that he never ate any more and it’s been over a week.
Is this normal behavior? To eat all his food one night then not eat any for over a week?
Thankyou, Sarah
How do you know he’s not eating? They will often eat when we don’t see them and he might just be eating and you don’t know.
I take a picture right after it is placed down then again in the morning and compare. I even look for the littlest lick marks. And I barely put any in so if I can’t see it then he probably had nothing.
Put a small amount of food spread on the top of a bottle cap. Not inside.
Is he still pooping? If you are a little concerned, pop a tiny bit on the end of his nose, without holding him if you can. He should luck it off and search for more.
All my Cresties have settled in at different speeds l, a couple have taken a REALLY long time to settle in food wise
but as long as there is poop then they should be eating enough
Hi! Thanks so much for answering, so he actually did eat about half his food on Wednesday night which was the only time I have seen him eat his food he unfortunately did not eat any on his last feeding night ( which was last night). so far I have seen three poops and they are relatively big. I have also seen a LOT of white pee spots so I am not worried about his drinking
So what I do is very feeding night (just to let him know that his food will be out) I will pop I bit of food on his nose and he always licks it off but instead of looking for more he always moves away from it.
So I am still a bit worried about his eating situation but it has been improving
So I do have a quick question, I just went to check on him and noticed he was in a rather odd sleeping position with one leg straight up In The air. Should I be worried?
( sorry about the bad quality)
Or rather just sort of not attached to anything
