Though I did end up getting some cute pics of him❤️
I also got some cool pics of his feet
Cresties don’t tend too eat much, they are little creatures so have little tummies.
I love close ups for their toes
Haha, that’s not a weird sleeping position. Meet Milkyway, he is notorious for odd sleeping positions & I’m constantly having to move him!
As long as they aren’t sleeping with their tail flopped over, theirs usually nothing to worry about
Omg I love those pictures so much
thanks for clarifying and answering my questions
I will continue to watch him and report back and keep you posted
Hey guys! So I have a quick update and a few questions
So he seems to be doing fine health wise plenty active colors great really calm and drinks well.
But the only problem as of now is his eating…
So he hasn’t eaten a substantial amount for about a month now, he did have a few licks of his food maybe 1-2 weeks ago? I know they don’t eat a lot so I only put out his food twice a week Monday and Friday.
So I wouldn’t have said anything but what really clarified that he hasn’t been eating is his weight loss…
I am begginig to see his ribs much clearer as well as him feeling much lighter.
I have also seen ZERO poop for 2 weeks now though I do see quit a lot of pee marks.
And I don’t think his eating has anything to do with stress since he is plenty acclimated to his home I have had him for about a 2 months now.
He is the only gecko I have had trouble with which I why I wanted to ask you is this normal in any way? Should I be worried? And how do I help him to eat?
I have tried almost everything different constancy’s different flavors in different places different amounts different food bowls…I don’t know what to do.
Any tips and/or advice would be greatly appreciated
Thankyou, Sarah
Also I have been noticing that he is awake during the day.
Sometimes active (as in moving around and fired up)
Sometimes just sitting there looking around (may also be fired up or dull colors)
I thought that cresties were nocturnal? So how come mine is awake during the day?
And it’s not the whole day just maybe for a few hours.
Any clue why?
Thanks in advance!
You should be offering food every other day as the food goes off which could explain why he’s not eating. My Cresties polish their food most days in the summer and eat a little less in the winter.
What food are you offering?
Hi thanks for the quick reply i tried doing every other day and he ever touched it once. Also the breeder said he had only been feeding him 2-3 times a week so I just started feeding every Monday and Friday.
As for the food I have been feeding Pangea watermelon flavor, Pangea bug and insects and Pangea papaya. I change the flavors out every feeding night and only have one bottle cap of food out at a time.
Today he is so active he hasn’t slept once and it’s 300pm he is jumping around and exploring his whole tank. Never seen him this active.
Is this normal?
He is also SUPER fired up.
Tonight is his feeding night…
Do you possible think it’s because he is hungry?
He didn’t eat on Monday barely on Friday so I am hoping he will take at least a lick tonight.
Sort of concerned about this behavior…none of my other geckos act like he does
Every other day feeding.
Previous person wasn’t feeding enough.
And try other flavours, a lot of cresties are fussy and won’t touch certain flavours.
Try the fig ones, they seem to all go mad for those. Add in some breeding and growth.
I second fig & insect. I find most of mine will eat anything that have fig and insect in it, which is great because all the hatchlings were super picky. Also repashy banana crème pie treat is a hit.
I apologize as this has likely been posted earlier in the thread, but gonna pop it here, too.
Mix the flavors up! @ghoulishcresties has a great thread up on here about how she mixes up food! I have to find it, but she might be quicker with the links! Bee pollen or a smidge of honey also work!
Maybe something to do with breeding season? Especially if he can see any other geckos. Idk, my male will do this during breeding season. I had to put a blanket between him and the ladies.
Also, you could maybe change the thickness of the food? Sometimes I adjust if I think they need more hydration, but not sure if it’s okay or not?
Thanks so much for the replies. We will be away from home for about 2 weeks and have about 12 animals to care for so we had to minimize the amount of attention each animal gets so for the next two weeks he will need to be fed Monday’s and Friday’s becuase feeding very other day will be to much work for the pet sitter.
It is to much work already but once I return I will try feeding every other day
But what doesn’t make sense is you have told me that feeding 2-3 times a week (so my feeding schedule. Since I feed Monday’s and Friday’s ) is not enough and suggested to feed every other night well…if feeding 2 times a week isn’t enough on his feeding nights he should be stuffing his face. I don’t get how feeding more often will help his situation of not eating at all.
I have tried feeding every other night and he didn’t touch it. Also he is a fully grown adult and I was lead to believe (by multiple sources) that adult crested geckos only eat 2-3 times a week.
But I will order the fig and insects and see how he does.
But I am getting worried as his ribs are showing and his belly (just getting a look since he is on the glass) is slightly sunken in it always used to be nice and chunky as he weighed 45g.
Thankyou
And yes as I mentioned earlier I do change the consistency between thicker and waterier
And no he is not near any other geckos
No silly Crestie do no rest only 2 times a week. Maybe in cooler months but not now!
My Cresties all eat every other day & insects should be every 2-3 days.
Might be worth trying a different brand like Repashy. Get some reptile safe bee pollen to mix in also (only need tiny amount).
I appreciate what your saying, but if he eats gone off food, he might have a tummy ache and therefore not eating, then repeating. Gecko diets only plus one day or they go off! I make a weekly batch and keep it in the fridge (as it will last in bottle of kept refrigerated for free days) so I can feed every day or every other day without hassle (I have a few Cresties).
You really need to remove the food. It sound like he is sick of the food being offered, he won’t know when it’s fresh and may only find it when it’s no good.
Cresties aren’t exactly nocturnal. A few of mine will be away from 5pm and awake at 7am while most wait till dark but that’s probably because I have 2 noisy children.
What are the temperature and humidity levels, have you weighed him, how much has he lost?
