Facts

Species: Ball Python
Name of Gene: Cantaloupe
First produced by whom: NBK Reptiles
Year: 2012
Genetics Type (Incdom/Codom/Recessive/Polygenic/etc): incomplete dominant
In complex with other genes?: Not that we know of
Other names/aliases for it?: none
Description: the Cantaloupe gene works as a cleaner gene in many combos. We have noticed a very clean side to the animals carrying the Cantaloupe gene. Works differently than any other genetic we have ever seen. Supers have been made and they are enhancing the clean side effects as well as bringing even more coloration.

Appearance: What it does/looks like? Cantaloupe itself can be subtle, they have peachy (cantaloupe colour) sides with a overall brighter appearance.
Proven: To what degree it is proven out to not just be polygenic? Yes, Supers were made in 2021
Unique: Why do you believe this is a new morph and not an existing one? Works differently than any other genes we’ve seen
Related Genes: none
Problems: Any problems? none
Other History: Any additional history? Cantaloupe was origin start from imported animals we got from the USA over at Reptile Industries. Back in the early 2000s we imported some very nice looking Enchi that had a special kick! Over the years we kept back some animals with side colours that were really clean and bright. We isolated the gene in 2012 producing our first Cantaloupe without Enchi. In 2021 we proved the Cantaloupe to have a Super form, or what it appears like one.

Genetics Type (Incdom/Codom/Recessive/Polygenic/etc): Incomplete dominant
In complex with other genes?: Not that we know of
Other names/aliases for it?: None
Description: The Cantaloupe gene is a lighter looking snake with subtle tones of peach colour on it’s own, but over the years we noticed that the animals carrying this gene we’re getting significantly brighter over time. We have noticed a very clean side to the animals carrying the Cantaloupe gene, a sort of clean demarcation starting from the belly and rising up to a bit over the mid side of the snakes. It works differently than any other genetic we have seen. Supers have been made and they are enhancing the clean side effects as well as bringing even more coloration. With Yellow Belly, the sides and flames are completely blown up and makes crazy combinations.
Appearance; What it does/looks like?

  • Head: Regular
  • Body: Clean lower half of the sides, increase of colours
  • Belly: Lighter than some regulars
  • Tail: Regular

Proven Lines: None
Related Genes: No other

Proven: To what degree it is proven out to not just be polygenic?
We have produced supers and isolated the gene in it’s single form. We also made clutches with and without that gene.
Unique: Why do you believe this is a new morph and not an existing one?
Works differently than other genes that are currently known.

Problems: Any problems? None
