No Bull Serpents 2026 Pituophis Breeding Plans

Thank you! She’s a beautiful snake. The male is not bad either but he’s not as dark as she is. Eggs should hatch in approx. 60 days so early July.

First two pics are her. The last is him.

My guess is Bronto for sure! It’s Jurassic Park at your house!!!

He actually looks darker in that pic! But either way both of them are magnificent Eric! All this couldn’t be happening to a nicer guy!!!:blush:

Totally Brontosaurus eggs. No doubt! Looking forward to seeing those gigantic babies arrive! I’m so accustomed to automatically evaluating egg sizes and guesstimating baby size - but that’s just for corn snakes. The eggs you’ve got are such whoppers, I haven’t a clue.

He does look darker in that pic, but in person she is definitely darker than him.

Thanks for the kind words!

The black pines will hatch out around 60g. They’re big babies.

As big as they are, Louisiana Pines have larger eggs and hatch out even bigger. One of my female LA pines was 92g at hatch. My friend Michael had a clutch of 4 in 2025 that all hatched out at 100g+!!!

All of these pine eggs make it exciting around here! There are tons of corns, BP, geckos, and of course plenty of boas but baby bulls and baby pines are such a welcome change! Maybe some day you will get into gophers? But this is great for now!:wink::wink::+1::+1::+1:

Edit to add: That’s why I have very long purple hair - not the norm……:wink::wink:

Those neonate sizes confirm it. Definitely dinosaurs!

Congratulations Eric :tada: I can’t wait for the photo bombing of all the babies in July. :exploding_head:

It’s nice that we have MM here to share are snakes with all are regular MM family. Every time someone posts their snakes and babies it feels like it’s part of are own collection. Some snakes we even get to see start from baby to adult and then have babies of their own.

We are all limited on space and knowledge for certain species. So it fun to share with everyone. I know I have enjoyed learning about snakes I would not have thought about owning.

Take care MM family. :hugs:

This girl looks like she is prepping to drop any day now. Tomorrow will be day 7 post pre-lay shed. The other two bulls dropped on days 9 and 10, so I was thinking she’d lay over the coming weekend. However, she’s dug herself a nice nest cavity and this morning had her body positioned like the other females just before they laid.

I don’t know if they’ll be good or not but she’s definitely gonna lay something!

Thanks Tom! Should be plenty of babies to take pics of. :grimacing::joy:

Why just live vicariously through MM community posts when you can have your very own beautiful bouncing hissy baby bull snake? I know a guy…… :joy:

My thoughts exactly Eric!!! :snake:

What is your opinion Eric are male or female bulls more tame / docile? Or are they about the same? I assume like my boas some like being out with me as a few prefer to be left alone in the cage. My male boas seem tamer then my female boas.

I really need to go down to Wheatfield IN. And catch a few bull snakes. Been 20 + years since I have done that. Not sure if I can move fastest enough to catch them anymore. The only thing I worry about is the tick population is out of control in NW Indiana this year.

I haven’t noticed any pattern between males or females and temperament. Most of mine are pretty calm and easy to handle. I have one male that is a bit flighty but not defensive, and I have female that can be a little defensive/easily worked up but she isn’t flighty in hand. The rest of them are pretty calm.

I definitely think temperament with them is genetic. Higher strung/defensive parents tend to have high strung/defensive offspring. Vise versa with even tempered/calm parents and their offspring.

I expect the offspring from my red hypo pos het albino & whiteside X red het hypo pos het albino & whiteside to be pretty easy going. Mom is really easy to work with. I have a few animals in my collection from the sires line and they are all super laid back and easy going. I don’t think they have ever hissed at me and hardly ever tail buzz either.

My hybino female (Ghost X Hybino pairing) is really easy also. She tail buzzes occasionally, but she is confident in hand and easy to handle. The sire is my flighty male. He was a hissy little strikey thing as a youth but has grown out of the defensiveness. He will tail buzz but hasn’t struck at me since he was a little guy and rarely hisses at me anymore. Even he settles down and is easy to handle after 1-2 mins of trying to escape. In fact, I had him out the other night and after his normal escape attempt routine, he crawled up on my shoulders and perched their for a few minutes. More like a boa in that moment!

My pines are even more chill. They are special animals. I swear you can see them thinking and calculating their moves. Even my male black pine who was a terror when he first arrived as settled down considerably. I like to think finding love has made him a changed man!

Thank you so much for sharing all of your snakes with us. Pines have long been a favorite of mine. Especially the Black Pines. I live in Montana. We have Bull snakes/Gopher snakes all over, but no Pines. I have enjoyed watching them get heavy with eggs and lay. And i cant wait to see the babies. I have been really hoping and wishing I could find a way to have one if not a pair in Montana. Id love some Northern Pines too. I lived in Oregon in the early 90’s and had both. I did an internship with Brad Tillman and got them from him. I have a male Boa that is 19 years old and doing great. I just bought him a Toad Ranch enclosure, so he thinks hes king of them all. Lol… Anyway, thank you again. And I cant wait until the babies hatch!!

Hi Jo, Thanks for the kind words and I am really glad you are enjoying this journey with me. I am going to shoot you a PM on the Black Pines if that’s okay?

Welp, I gotta share the bad with the good. I don’t think these three eggs are gonna make it. This is from the 29 egg clutch that my hybino female laid. Three of the eggs did not candle as viable and with these three not looking so hot that bring us to 23 good eggs. Still not bad. Several of the eggs she laid had funny looking “windowed” bulgey spots. These eggs were three of those. The rest of the “funny” eggs still appear to be doing well. You can see one of them in the pic with the bad egg. I am going to give them a few more days to see if they deteriorate further. If they do continue to deteriorate I will remove them if I can without damaging the good eggs.

That’s too bad Eric! But you still have some good eggs! I think @caryl had some corn eggs once with windows…
