Sorry you’ve lost a few eggs, Eric. Seems like a very rare year when I don’t lose a few.Hopefully the rest of your bcrop will thrive.
Caron is right that I’ve had a few corn eggs which developed see-through windows during incubation which did just fine. Those looked different, though. When I have had bulgy type eggs which looked similar to the ones you’re showing, they’ve generally failed at some point. I have had them go pretty far before going dark, though. I surely wouldn’t say it’s not possible.
I’m a little late on the update here but this pretty lady dropped 13 big eggs on Monday. Eleven of them candled good. This was my not planned pairing of a Hypo Stillwater 66% pos het Miami Axanthic X Hypo Stillwater/Miami Axanthic “Ghost” combo.
I saw not planned because I was planning to wait another year to pair this female. She is three years old but right at the 5’ mark she was border line size was for my liking. However, she had other plans decided she was going to ovulate. The male is also young (2024) and was not brumated this past winter because I hadn’t planned to deploy him this season. I only witnessed one confirmed lock between them and they were only paired a short while before she went into shed. Apparently none of this mattered.
Thanks @caryl . I was concerned when I first saw them but I’ve talked to folks that say they hatch and others who say they don’t. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I hate it!
I did “candled” a few of the bulgey ones that still look healthy last night because I can’t help myself. They all had strong, healthy looking vein systems that had grown since been laid. Can’t be a bad sign, right?
Have to say I love pits, but I can’t afford the absolute beast of an enclosure they need. Still a dream snake of mine, and I wish you good luck with this season’s babies!
If you try that with fresh hatch pits you’re gonna get bit! Or at least hissed at and mock striked… Bulls/pines are either really calm or extremely sassy when they’re babies, and they kinda grow into their attitudes as they age it seems like.
I swear, every time I look at one of your snakes I think, that’s my favorite. Then there a different one, and I think no, that’s my favorite! And so on and so on and so on. They’re all wonderful!
Checking the eggs this morning and discovered the first pip. This is the ghost x hybino clutch. Today is Day 55. These were placed on the top shelf of the incubator so they were running a tad warmer than the rest of the boxes.
