Thankfully Andromeda’s not kinked – just her potential mate-to-be, who ended up going to a different home. As far as I’ve been able to tell Andy’s only flaw is a couple of freckles on her back (cute as heck) and a single half belly scute.
Bushvelds are gorgeous – now there’d be a fun outcross for a BEL. I bet their double homozygous would be snow white.
It’s been a while, I’m reviving this thread! I can’t remember if I introduced this girl here, so I’m doing it now! This is Etherea, my hypo house snake female from Bushveld. She’s already doubled in size since I got her (this was the day I got her) and I cannot wait to prove out my poss het hypo male with her.
Just did a quick recap on this thread and am LOVING your little house snakes. Their pointy noses, big eyes, and cheek stripes are to die for! Nice to see an update!
Oh she’s a beauty! I haven’t touched the wide world of hypos myself, but I hear they’re incredible in person. Those subtle tans and browns are luscious.
Another convert to the house of housies. they are nearly the cutest little guys out there.
I’m hoping to get either high quality KZN or hypo as my next house snake addition. Both are beautiful, but the hypo is obviously the easier choice as far as breeding down the line.
I couldn’t take her outside because we currently have about 12 inches of snow on the ground, but I went up to the snake room to get a couple of pictures!! My hope is to pair her with my KZN red male to make hets that will hopefully create pinkish hypos down the line.
Ohhh, a pinkish hypo is a fascinating idea. Has it been done before?
A good bright KZN seems like it could be a boon to a whole spread of different projects. I have my eye to trying to breed some extra-red T- albinos (when I get into breeding/if it ends up being for me) – I’ve seen someone in Europe produce an impressively red T- and I’m hoping it’s a reproducible experiment because the offspring was gorgeous. The only problem with the KZNs is it’s hard to know how they’ll colour up in adulthood when they’re young.
Not to my knowledge! I spoke to Bushveld and they said they haven’t even made KZN hypo hets yet, so I’m hoping there’ll be some interest in the project. She’ll go to my 50% KZN T- male, and he’s quite a nice deep orange/red.
Sorry it’s been a while, I’ve had health stuff and life stuff going on. To repay, here is the little prince Sangfroid showing off his growth during some outdoor hold time.
I have a collection update. Last year I decided to sell Spitfire, one of my T- albino cape house snake breeder girls, because I wanted to make room to bring in a hypo female. Unfortunately, shortly after that happened, Persimmon (my OTHER T- cape breeder female) escaped her enclosure and I haven’t seen hide nor hair of her in 6 months. So I finally broke down and brought in a new female. I’m still deciding on a name for her but she’s a big LTC female cape/brown (patternless) who’s at least 10ish years old. Hoping to get some weight on her and maybe get some eggs later this season!
