Oh absolutely! I know there’s a comic character called Swamp Thing, but I think he’s person shaped, and that’s not what we’re going for

They’re a real mixed bag, they’re mostly chill, even sometimes approaching humans for food, but randomly (especially during mating season) can become super violent. And despite the similar appearance and similar name, they’re not closely related to true cardinals with the closest taxonomic connection being that they’re in the same order.
I was wondering how closely related they were, their beak is much more narrow than a Northern’s. Cool!
Hey all!
I am largely settling in to my new life as a grad student, and starting up is expensive. Due to the time needed for my first paycheck to come in, once I pay for September rent on the first, I will be left with $27 to cover food for the rest of the month. ![]()
As such, please consider my commissions FULLY OPEN
- whatever you want, at whatever price you feel is fine. If I have the time and skills, I’ll work on it for you! I work long days right now, but should largely have weekend time to work on things ![]()
This is in no way meant to be a guilt-trip, pity party thing, I just wanted to be up front about the sudden change to my commission policy for the time being

Dinosaurs will continue to come out as I am able to work on them, no worries there!
Here is the delight that is the Ocean Sunfish. Head empty, no thoughts.
They can’t close their mouth, can barely propel themselves, and simply float around passively inhaling food.
Other animals literally just chew chunks out of them, and they just keep floating, able to survive with huge chunks of flesh gone.
How aren’t they extinct? They spawn around 300 million eggs per animal per season!
Love this! I recently had the privilege of seeing three ocean sunfish in the wild (from a boat). Two were sitting vertically in the water at the surface with their dorsal fins sticking out of the water, and the third was laying down horizontally at the surface. Because they’re weird fish with weird behaviour. ![]()
I’m jealous! I would love to see one in nature.
I love seeing pictures of them doing this, truly no thoughts, just flat ![]()
Have you thought about doing a chicken? They are pretty much dinosaurs after all
Oooh maybe I can do a collage type art piece with various modern birds that seem very ‘dinosaury’ and I can make a video about modern dinosaurs! Great idea!
Let’s see, my top choices for dino birds would probably include:
- Chickens
- Harpy eagle
- shoebill stork
- Cassowary
Including other birds would probably be good too, since all birds are modern dinos rather than just the cool ones. Maybe something tiny like a wren?
Thoughts on what else to add to a collage?
Bearded vulture, kori bustard, hoatzin, and takahē could be cool additions
Oh great choices!
Chickadee!!! Or I guess, Chickadino, perhaps hanging upside down from something.
Great idea!!!
A tiny little gouldian finch would be a great addition
I had to look these up and OH MY what cuties! They need to also be a reference for a feathered dino at some point in the future, so beautiful!
Also not technically dinosaurs or reptiles, but you guys love inverts too, so you might find this fun!
I’ll be filling an embroidery frame with butterflies (very slowly lol), when I need breaks from screens or looking at data. I’ve started with a monarch, and would love suggestions, since I don’t know too many butterflies!
Zebra longwing, peacock, cloudless sulphur, queen Alexandra’s birdwing, mourning cloak, blue morpho
Amazing, thank you!
Ooh, nice! Some other lovely butterflies, the chimaera birdwing and the Eighty-eight, and the Buckeye. I’m partial to swallowtail butterflies, too. If you’d like to include any moths, there are some the Luna, Io, and rosy maple moths are gorgeous.
