Oh there will most definitely be photos! Usually the first shed removes the majority of the scabbing, so itāll be nice to see whatās under all of that. I assume thereāll be a bit of stuck shed to deal with since all the sutures are still in place.
I agree, but I wouldnāt worry too much about trying to get it all off if itās not coming off easily since she needs the sutures out still. She seems to be making great progress in her recovery, good strong snake and great husbandry!
Super excited to hear that she is doing so well! She is a real trooper!
@banereptiles As her incision is so long this time, I doubt sheāll have as many issues with shedding, she only had a few last time. The only reason I remove anything stuck is if itās in the wrong area, it can cause problems with continued healing. That said, it is entirely possible she wonāt end up needing my help, as these sutures are much larger/further apart than the previous procedure.
@spottedbull She just plows ahead through life, toughest little creature Iāve ever met and not a single thing seems to bother her.
Such happy updates, from paying off the huge very bill to Celia trucking right on through her days, recovering so well. Loving the happy news, looking forward to new pics after she sheds.
She did it, finally shed! There was some help required, but I didnāt bother getting it all off, just the big chunks and anything that looked like it could interfere with the way the wound is coming together. All the activity also had her pass her largest poo yet, which is awesome progress. Every day she looks better and better, I canāt wait to get some new photos of her to share. Sheās filling back out again, too. Only thing left is getting her stitches out, which Iām willing to wait as long as need be with them in to give her the best outcome.
Thatās great news! Not just the shed but the poo too! She seems to be progressing very quickly in her healing process, which is outstanding! Some pics would be appreciated by all Iām sure! Also when does the vet think the stitches will be ready to be removed, or is it going to take a vet visit to visually determine that?
Thatās super great news!!
The vet said about a month, but considering after her last surgery it took longer, Iām not even gonna bother making the appointment until either 6 weeks post or they give me a call.
How grand! Celia is one amazing girl. Iām so happy that sheās doing so wonderfully!
Ya thatās probably smart, no need to rush it! That is a large incision, and she is progressing so well anyway! Donāt need to stress her out more then necessary, less trips to the vet the better!
I really do want to say thanks again to every one of you who have been following her progress and cheering her on, itās been very reassuring to have that support. Iām sure Celia would agree if she understood it. I plan to take her out for a photo shoot in the sun later in the week to really give everyone a good idea of how she looks & is healing.
Well, we got delayed on photos. I want to take them outside to get a more accurate photo of how sheās healing & her color coming back, but the air quality isnāt cooperating. Weāve got issues with the wildfire smoke from Canada in the upper Midwest right now and Iām not about to take her out to breathe that in (or let myself, either). That said, sheās pooped again! Another nice big healthy poo in the enclosure this morning. I think that shed did her all the good, her system seems to be getting back in rhythm. Appetite hasnāt wavered, either. As a matter of fact, sheās starting to get frustrated with the smaller meals. I might try to move her up to medium mice again, idk if I should run the idea by her vet first or not.
Didnāt realize the wildfire stuff was going to be hitting the Midwest. Walked outside today and thought something was wrong with my contacts. Just looks hazy and smog-like everywhere.
Itās super hazy here, too, though thankfully theyāve been good giving us warnings about the air. Having just gotten back from South Korea where there are issues with dust, I broke out my KF94 masks for anything requiring extended time outside since I have asthma.
Ugh to smoke. I hate fire season. We have other kinds of disasters here, but I have family in places with fire issues.
So glad that Celia is continuing to recover well! Canāt wait to see pictures of her progress.
Sorry to hear youāre having to deal with wildfire smoke. I live in SoCal, the land of wildfires, so I can empathize. (Fortunately itās been a couple years since weāve had a bad fire locally, knock on wood.) I hate the smoke, falling ash, and apocalyptic-looking haze. I hope your air quality improves soon!
I think Iāll try to get some photos today, as the air quality is finally at least somewhat acceptable. The last couple of weeks on and off it has been bad in a way we donāt usually see here, so Iām thankful for the reprieve. I do hope those in Canada affected by the fires are alright, I know weāve got it much easier just dealing with the smoke portion.
Alright @banereptiles @caryl @jawramik @lumpy @mblaney @solarserpents @ghsaltie @spottedbull @athleticshoelace @nswilkerson1 here she is in all her post-op, post shed glory! Sheās healing beautifully, as you can see. Incision looks great, sheās putting weight back on, all systems functioning normally. All thatās left is suture removal and the whole long saga is finally over and Ms. Celia shall spend the rest of her life spoiled rotten with no worries about her health.
She looks pretty good! Poor girl has been through a lot!
