Yup @jawramik Jennifer! That just about says it all!
Update on the baby scorpions. None of them have left the mother unfortunately and I don’t see them moving so I’m wondering if they are getting ready to molt? Or maybe they’re not getting to make it. I suppose if they die she will shed them?
I was kinda worried about what I was going to do with them but now I’m a little disappointed.
I’m no scorpion expert, but I imagine the humidity, temperature and everything environmentally speaking is probably a lot less forgiving for these tiny newborn guys! (I’ve heard some egg sacks don’t do well all the time too) Also who knows how healthy they really were/are? Too many variables to know exactly what could have happened, or maybe they are all messing with you and BOOM they will all molt and jump off mom at the same time!
Yeah I bet that’s what is happening. They are waiting until I go to sleep one night and they will all crawl off at once and voila! If they do you will be the first to know @banereptiles Nathan!
I know very little about scorpions, so I really couldn’t tell you if they’re dying or molting. I hope they’re just getting ready to molt!
I know how you feel. I wasn’t thrilled when I first saw Tala’s egg sac, but now that I’ve had some time to get used to the idea, I’m going to be disappointed if it doesn’t hatch.
Hopefully your little scorplings are just giving you a scare and will be molting and moving out of mom’s house in no time!
Ahh adorable!!!
Yes they’ll get out the vents, as soon as they leave mum you need to get them out or she’ll eat them
An old friend of mine used to breed emperors. Amazing
Ok I have a paper towel under the lid so I should be good. But they are not moving anymore so that has me a bit concerned……
I don’t know anything about scorpions, but I have become invested in your unexpected babies, @caron . Maybe they’re simply inactive before molting. That would make sense to me. Snakes become inactive when they’re preparing to shed, maybe scorpions do, too.
Yes @caryl this could be very true! But time will eventually tell……
Update everyone! The babies have left momma!
They are so teeny tiny! Some of them have buried themselves here and there so they may be waiting until their exoskeletons harden. But………. The first pic is one of the babies. They have plenty of fruit flies daily. The second pic is another scorpion that looks like it is getting ready to birth some babies as well.
I think that’s my hand in the second pic somehow! Lol!
Awww, they’re so tiny and cute! How many did you end up with?
Oh goodness…MORE scorplings? Well, at least you know what to expect now!
They are so tiny and cute!
Well thats just way too cool!
You should probably stop getting that thing wet. Definitely don’t feed it after midnight!
To tell you the truth Jennifer, I am not sure how many babies I managed to gather but maybe 15 or so? I should have put momma in an escape proof fruit fly type container and then all I would have had to do is remove her instead. The babies are only big enough to eat fruit flies.
Next time I will know better if it happens again! Which I really hope not! Lol!
Super cute little things! And I thought baby leopard geckos were tiny! What a crazy unplanned adventure for you!
Oh my goodness, Caron! They’re ridiculous. I mean that with the sweetest and most adorable connotations. I must say, I’m no longer finding it shocking that you’ve got yet another creature who is unexpectedly expecting.
Thank you Caryl! Now if I was a breeder this would not be happening! Lol! I think a lot of them are buried and come out at night to eat but there is one or 2 that hang around at the top? All I know is I have learned to make sure that there is plenty of food and leave them alone. I am afraid to look at the other scorpion! Lol!
Update everyone!
Today I saw 4 little scorplings eating the fruit flies! They are getting a bit longer but still very tiny and fragile. When they eat they scrunch up a bit and stretch out again. Even the fruit flies are pretty much a “claw ful” for them!
I will try to get another pic when I see them out and about again!
