What New Invertebrates Have You Bought Recently?

lol! This is funny but I have never heard of a “pokie!”! If I lived near you I would be taking your class if permitted! No wonder you know all of these technical names! Lol!:heart:

Yes its an Asian Forest. I’m already planning on getting a load of scorpions once the critter room is reorganized. And a centipede. I really want a centipede.

I want one of these, too!

I guess they are having a special on them lol!

Lol! Mine is an Asian Forest as well. 14.99! Lol! Supposedly they are much more on the aggressive side? Or so I was told .

The Chaco came from Josh’s Frogs. I still want a Halloween, a Chilean Rose Flame and a Chevron.

I bought an OBT as well but it’s pretty small but already colorful.

Actually my Trinidad olive is very secretive and not bolty so far. It comes out at night but will quickly disappear into its tunnel if it detects me. Maybe this one is a little different! lol!

My chevron is that way as well.

“Pokie” is just a cutesy nickname for the Poecilotheria genus of tarantulas. They’re an Asian arboreal genus that is particularly stunning. Most have the word “ornamental” in their common name. The most well-known is P. metallica, or the Gooty Sapphire Ornamental (not my picture, just found it on Google):

All “pokies” have similar markings, but the colour scheme varies by species. Most are mostly grey, white, and black, but some have tints of other colours, like red, green, and purple. P. metallica is definitely the most vibrant, but they’re all stunning in their own way. I just struggle to keep all the species straight.

I found scarlet millipedes at a reptile expo. I don’t usually see these guys for sale and usually they’re ~$15 each, which is way too high. I got a group of what I believe are 1.2.1 for $20.

I want all of the pokies, in due time. I have one old world now, an M. balfouri.

I’ve heard that Asian forest scorpions are typically pretty docile, though as always, temperament will vary between individuals. But I often see them listed among scorpion species that can be handled and are generally quite easy to work with. Their venom is also nothing to worry about, and apparently they’re not inclined to sting. They use their claws more for both defense and subduing prey.

So cool you got a golden knee, I absolutely love mine!

Actually the pet store I get live fuzzies from had some millipedes……that I saw Friday……

Same! Such a gorgeous genus. My favourites are the green one and the purple one (can’t remember species name for either), but they’re all insanely beautiful.

Next time you’re over there you should get them, lol. These are pretty fun to keep. Ivory millipedes are my favorite that I have because of their size.

lol. The guy at Petsmart told me they were aggressive! Lol! I am glad he was wrong. This guy was in a tiny little critter keeper and I felt sorry for him. But I am not sure I will get any more…….

Once I rehoused mine, it disappeared. I used critter soil reptisoil and made it pretty deep. Used two cork barks for hides and starter burrows. Last I saw was the tail disappearing from view in the soil.

Thank you Jennifer! Those guys must be so gorgeous if they’re like the one in the picture! I need to study up on the scientific name’s though!
