Whoops! Guess I've started my 2026 season

Look at those little fat cutie patooties! Full of fish! :ok_hand:

I am trying, but as you noted, they don’t exactly have the unique headstamps a corn would. I’m having to use body patterns, but I am able to ID them thus far. The day I got their first weights I made them all profiles in the app I use, complete with ID photos.

They’re so ridiculously cute!! Excellent that you’ve seen everybody eat, too!

It is really, really amazing you can tell them apart. What app do you use, just out of curiosity? I think you told me once, but my memory isn’t the best…

I hope it doesn’t go against forum rules to ask, but will you be selling the babies through MM?

ExotiKeeper is the app I use. Nothing too fancy.

Debating on that one due to some issues that popped up at the beginning of this month. We’ve had a lot of FedEx closures in my area, so they’re now quite a pain to get to, and I absolutely do not trust driver pickup. I could switch to UPS but I’d lose my higher buyer protection via MM and have to more than double my shipping prices and I’m not sure how sustainable that would be. Essentially it’s a possibility, but nothing has been decided yet.

The hub I have used for years closed at the end of February so I now have to travel 2 interstates to get to the next closest one, which is also a pain, mainly because the older I get the more I try to avoid high traffic areas. Including Indy!

I wish MorphMarket would allow for shipping via UPS. FedEx closures have become a serious problem for a lot of people. There was a brief window of time when MorphMarket Shipping allowed a choice between UPS and FedEx. We need that again.

For a bit it looked like FedEx was closing every hub in the state except one that was three hours away. As of today I found out there will still be one remaining hub open within 50 miles of me, but it’s in a Northern suburb of the twin cities that is a huge pain to get to for the same reasons you mentioned, high traffic. Add in to that road construction, gas prices, and it becomes quite the hurdle.

At least with this discovery I do still have an option, but with all the stuff I’m hearing coming out about how the merger between Express and Ground is going, it doesn’t instill a lot of confidence in the animals getting where they need to be on time and unharmed. Not only that, but since I only do hub-to-hub shipping, I now have to worry about my customers having a close enough hub to pick up from.

I’m the same. It’s been a problem for a few people. I have made very rare exceptions, but they’re rare. I explain the safety concerns. I explain that I personally have to drive about an hour each way to drop them off, so I understand that it’s a hassle. People generally understand, and in the past, those who weren’t willing to drive less than hour to get their animal for the animal’s safety probably weren’t meant to have that animal at that point in their lives. Now there are people who are 2 or 3 hours from a hub. That’s beyond annoying and well into burdensome.

Unfortunately from what little I know of the MM situation, it doesn’t sound like UPS will be an option again any time soon, if they do manage to sort it out. Even if they do, I’m not sure they’d be able to offer discounts anywhere near what they have for FedEx. I looked into shipping UPS via one of the other companies and every estimate came up to over twice what I would pay for the same shipment via FedEx. Since I’m a very small time breeder who already has pricing higher than the average, it would make it very hard for me to remain competitive.

It has gotten so ridiculous at this point. I hadn’t had too many issues yet, but after this latest round of closures I feel like it’s going to get very hard for people in a lot of areas to find a hub within a reasonable distance. Minnesota, as far as I’m aware, is now left with only three hubs in the entire state after a single round of closures. Not only that, but with FedEx merging two systems that had been entirely separate and firing a bunch of their employees including drivers, and using subcontractors for delivery, I trust their handling even less than I did previously.

I had someone basically drive from San Diego zoo to Disneyland… Dedication

I’ve had good luck with driver pickup, but the shipping hub for the area is fairly close and the temps have been pretty good. I’ve made an exception to hub shipping, but the temps were more than cool enough to not worry about a truck.
Especially with the summer temps warming in the US it’s not a good time for home delivery or pickup for many. I just shipped one yesterday to Texas and it was forecast for a high of 95 today. Thankfully the hub is controlled temps and they get there early for me.

I hope that some more options open up soon though. It’s been rough for many people with the changes and Jess definitely has had some frustrating changes in her area.

Yup another problem for both shipper AND receiver!

Itt just completed her post-birthing shed, and she’s looking good. Need to get some more weight back on her, but that’s not a worry. Today will be feeding number three for her littles. I’m also heavily considering a name change for both her and Thing.

Why are you considering a name change? And what are you considering?

I’m not really fond of Itt and Thing as names, to be honest. Itt only got her name because I needed something to go with Thing. Thing used to be Thing 2, with his brother Thing 1, but after the brother passed away I removed the number because it didn’t make sense anymore, name wise. I’ve been batting around different ideas, currently considering a naming theme based off of a film. I’m also considering just swapping their names to Gomez and Morticia.

Gomez and Morticia feels like it’d be a great tribute to the original names and a wonderful name glow-up all at once. Love it.

Gomez and Morticia sound like fine choices for them!

Now that would be a plan! :ok_hand:
